BUSINESS SITUATION

Concrete collection sumps filled with stormwater and contain low levels of PFAS from legacy use of Aqueous Fire Fighting Foam (AFFF) leaching from the concrete.
Environmental regulators required the water to be treated prior to discharge to environment with a discharge limit of below level of detection.

TECHNICAL SITUATION

Discharge levels set by regulators required a short-term hire as there was only 1 ML of water to treat at site.
Further water analysis and details from site also noted the small presence of suspended solids and algal bloom that could affect the efficiency to remove PFAS.
The treatment solution required to be mobile for two (2) different locations onsite while also being able to also remove hydrocarbons for the second water source.

SOLUTION

To achieve the required quick turnaround the PFAS Treatment Water System (PTWS) was delivered on
skids, fully tested and ready for site connection, significantly reducing site installation and commissioning
works.
The OLEOLOGY treatment solution included 6 skids;
Skid 1 – Pump, Controller and Monitoring Equipment
Skid 2 to 4 – Backwashable media to remove oily solids and protect the following MyCelx filtration
stages. The sequence of filters removes dispersed & stable emulsions along with soluble hydrocarbons
to increase efficiency to capture the various PFAs analytes.
Skid 5 & 6 – Further polishing of the water and harder to remove PFAS analytes. Two Bulk Performer
units were placed in series to provide a certainty for no breakthrough and discharge below detectable
levels.
